Here are some cute plaid placemats that are perfect for anyone who wants to brighten up their patio table, dining room, or kitchen with a pretty Buffalo Check pattern! The pattern is easy; each placemat is made up of several squares that take only minutes to make! Mix and match colors to make gorgeous table settings for summer, fall, the holidays, or any occasion!

Plaid Placemats

In between making some more fun amigurumi, I wanted to design a pattern that was cute, versatile, and functional for the home. You might remember my first placemat pattern, my Sunflower Placemats – I had a blast making those! So naturally, my thoughts turned to placemats when coming up with home decor ideas. The great thing about these placemats is that you can mix and match the colors to make everything from rustic chic (red/black or black/grey/white) to holiday themed (red/green)! The possibilities are endless!

For these particular placemats, I decided to go with red/white “picnic plaid” for summertime! Getting the right classic red and light red are essential to capturing that look, so I used Red Heart Super Saver in Cherry Red (on Amazon HERE) and Flamingo (on Amazon HERE) and accented them with White (on Amazon HERE). I love the results!

Place two Squares together with wrong sides facing each other; with White, insert hook through FLO of st closest to you, and BLO of st furthest away from you, ch 1. Sc (see first photo below). Rep across (including in ch sts in corners) to attach two Squares. Rep process of folding squares together and making sc sts across to attach Squares horizontally (second and third photos below) and vertically (fourth and fifth photo below). Fifth photo shows finished process.

Attach main color in any corner of Placemat, ch 1. Sc around entire piece, making 2 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off, weave in ends.
