They said I could be anything, so I became a UNICORN! Not really, but I did design a super cute chibi one that is quick and fun to crochet! This Unicorn has everything you could possibly want in a tiny mythical creature – sparkly rainbow mane, a glittery horn, and a heart shaped nose!

Thanks to the way this unicorn is designed, the majority of the piece works up very quickly because the head/body are all one piece.  Once you’re finished with that, it’s on to making the fun little accents that make this unicorn so kawaii!

Speaking of the design, why is this unicorn called “chibi”, you ask?  It’s because that’s the Japanese slang word for “little”, and it also refers to a style of artwork known as “super deformed” – meaning the characters are drawn as tiny but with huge eyes, heads, etc. to maximize the cuteness!

(Pin it for later!)

Selecting the best yarns for this unicorn was no easy task! I knew I wanted lots of shimmer and bright, girly colors. I finally decided on Lion Brand Vanna’s Glamour in Gold for the horn (find it on Amazon HERE), and Bernat Baby Coordinates in Cotton Candy for the mane (find some on Amazon HERE). “Gold” is a deep color with lots of glitter in it, and “Cotton Candy” is a pastel rainbow of colors with shimmery accents. Not sure it gets any more magical than that, folks!

And it just wouldn’t have that amigurumi look without the good old safety eyes! HERE are some great ones for this project from Amazon!

So if you’re ready to maximize the cuteness factor in your life, then let’s get started on crocheting this chibi unicorn right now!

Pull tight and secure by tying a knot with two sections of the tail. Trim ends so that they are even.

Sew Heart Nose between eyes. Use Black to sew small “v” for smile underneath Nose. Use Rose to sew small horizontal lines on outer corners of Eyes for Blush. Stuff Horn and sew to top-center of Head.

Sew Ears on either side of Horn. Sew three pieces of Mane behind Horn in center of body.

Stuff Feet and sew to bottom of Body. Tie off ends and hide knots inside sts of Head/Body.
