If you loved my Rainbow After the Storm Pocket Shawl, then meet its companion slouchy hat! This beanie is easy to make and has a cheerful, unique look. Since slouchy hats are flattering to many different face shapes, this hat is sure to be a hit with whoever is lucky enough to add it to their wardrobe! The rainbow colors stitched throughout the hat are complimented by a soft grey, making it a beautiful contrast as well as meaningful. The combination of grey and rainbow colors is not only very fashionable, but represents coming out of a tough situation in life. This makes it perfect as a gift, and/or addition to your own wardrobe that is sure to be treasured for ages to come!

Love the yarn you see in these photos? I do too – and I’m excited to share that LoveCrafts generously provided all the yarn used in this pattern! Head to LoveCrafts.com to purchase some of your own!

Rainbow After the Storm Slouchy Hat

As I explained in the blog post for my Rainbow After the Storm Pocket Shawl (which by the way, is the perfect compliment to this hat!), the idea behind my Rainbow After the Storm collection is to embrace the idea of coming out of a difficult or painful situation or time period to find brightness and hope. It could be a personal event, and/or the state of global affairs since 2020. Either way, it’s a great way to show someone you care! Or make one for yourself and represent the hope that lies beyond such events! And of course, this is also perfect for those who just really, really love rainbows (like myself!) and enjoy the color contrast. Whatever your cause for crocheting this beanie is, I hope you enjoy the fun, simple repeats that make up this cute and quick beanie. And if you happen to find some healing along the way while you’re stitching, then all the better!

My Rainbow After the Storm hat and pocket shawl are the perfect set!!!

How to Make This

Instructions
Cuff

With Stormy Grey, ch 8.
Row 1 – sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each st across. Ch 1, turn (7 sc)
Row 2 – working in BLO, sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Rows 3 – 49 (or until Cuff measures 21 inches when VERY stretched) – rep Row 2. (See first photo below)
Joining Cuff
With right sides facing together, fold cuff in half. Working through BLO of row closest to you, and through FLO of row farthest away from you (see second photo below), sc across both edges of Cuff to join (third photo). Turn right side out, ch 2. Do not fasten off. (7 sc)

Body of Hat
Rnd 1 – Evenly make 68 dc in side edges of Cuff (this equates to about 1 dc per each row of Cuff, while making 2 dc per row occasionally). Ch 2 (68 dc)
Rnd 2 – dc in each st around. Change to Party Streamers in last dc of rnd. Ch 3. (68 dc)
Rnd 3 – sk next 2 sts, puff st in next st. *Sk next st, puff st in next st.* Rep from * to * 31 more times. Sk last st. Join with sl st to 2nd ch in beg ch 3 (first photo below). Change to Stormy Grey. Ch 2. (33 puff sts)
Rnd 4 – in next ch sp from previous rnd, make 2 dc. *Dc on top of next puff st. Dc in next ch sp.* (See second photo below.) Rep from * to * 32 more times. Join with sl st to first dc of rnd. Ch 2. (68 dc)
Rnd 5 – dc in each st around. Change to Party Streamers in last st. Ch 3. (68 dc)
Rnd 6 – rep Rnd 3. (33 puff sts.)
Rnds 7 – 15 – rep Rnds 4 – 6 three more times (third photo).

Rnds 16 – 17 – rep rnds 4 and 5. Do not fasten off.

Closing Hat
Fold top of hat in half; insert hook into st directly across from current st (first photo below) and make a sc. Fold hat in half again, placing larger gaps remaining after previous step together (second photo below); sc. Rep two more times until hat is cinched closed (third and fourth photos below; fifth photo shows finished cinching). Fasten off.

Pom Pom
Wrap yarn around two fingers, or a small object about 1 inch in length (first photo below); wrap enough yarn to show all six colors of variegation (about 100 yds). Cut a separate small piece of yarn and run it through center of pom pom after carefully removing object yarn was wrapped around. Tie a tight knot (second photo). Cut through center of pom pom (third photo). Trim pom pom (fourth photo). Use ends from yarn that was tied around yarn to sew it onto top of Hat.

Weave in all ends. (Photo below shows finished hat.)
