Star Applique – Crochet Pattern

It’s also an excellent stash buster since it only takes a few yards to work up an adorable star. Make this fun pattern in just minutes and then use it as a cute accessory, to gift to friends / family / coworkers for the holidays, or even as a small ornament for your tree! The possibilities are endless!

Star Applique

I’m excited to share that this pattern is part of the 2023 Holiday Stashdown from Underground Crafter! This crochet-along has been full of adorable patterns that are fun, fast, and perfect for this busy time of year. I got the idea for this pattern while working up numerous kawaii patterns that called for cute little stars as an accent. So I figured I’d share the pattern here for yarn friends who want to throw a little starlight on whatever project they’re making!

Supplies

Crochet hook to match yarn size (for medium weight yarn, a 4 -5 mm crochet hook is recommended)

Less than 50 yds of yarn (any weight, to match hook size – medium weight yarn was used in photos)

Yarn Needle

Scissors

Finishing notions like ball chains, keyring, carabiner, ribbon, etc. (optional)

Abbreviations

*= indicates beginning/end of a section to be repeated

Ch = chain

Hdc = half double crochet

Rep = repeat

Rnd(s) = round(s)

Sc = single crochet

Sk = skip

Sl St = slip stitch

St(s) = stitch(es)

Gauge

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

Size

Varies depending on yarn/hook sizes used; with 4 – 5 mm hooks and medium weight yarn, measures about 2 inches

How to Make This

Star

Rnd 1 – make a magic ring; 6 sc in ring. (6 sc)

Rnd 2 – Ch 3. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch. Sk next st from Rnd 1, sl st in next st from Rnd 1 (star point made). *Ch 3. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch. Sl st in next st from Rnd 1.* Rep from * to * 3 more times. Optional: use yarn needle to make a small loop after making last point (for attaching keyring, ribbon, etc.). (5 star points)

Fasten off, weave in all ends.
