This adorable Candy Cane scarf is the perfect project to make for your pet, or a pet you know! It’s so adorable to use in Christmas photos – what a great way to dress up your furry friend for a special holiday occasion!
This sweet scarf is a great option for dogs who don’t love wearing bigger outfits, hats, etc. It’s not much bigger than a bandana, but still has a festive look that will work holiday magic on seasonal photos of your pup!

Materials
Size 5 mm (H-8) crochet hook
Medium weight yarn in red and white – about 100 yds each (Red Heart Super Saver Metallic in Red and White used in photos)
Yarn needle
Scissors
Two 4-inch white pom poms with elastic loop
Abbreviations
*= indicates beginning/end of a section to be repeated
Ch = chain
Hdc = half double crochet
Rep = repeat
St(s) = stitch(es)
Gauge
4 stitches and 2 rows = 1 inch
Measurements
About 30 inches long and 4 inches wide
Notes
• Pattern written in US crochet terms
• Stitch counts are listed in parentheses
• Scarf is one size fits most; dog in photo is a medium-large 60-65 lb dog. To adjust the pattern for a different size, add or remove chain stitches during first step, or rows at the end of the pattern.
Instructions
Scarf
With white yarn, ch 15.
Row 1 – hdc in 2nd st from hook, and in each st across. Ch 1, turn (14 hdc)
Row 2 – hdc in each st across. Change to red yarn in last st. Ch 1, turn (14 hdc)
Rows 3 – 4 – Rep Row 2; change to white yarn in last st of Row 4. (14 hdc)
(For less ends to weave in at the end of project, carry alternate colored yarn each row and carry up with chaining 1 at the end of each row [see photos below].)
Rows 5 – 66 – Rep Rows 3 and 4, alternating colors every 2 rows. (14 hdc).
Fasten off.
Finishing
Thread yarn needle with white yarn. Gather all stitches of either end of scarf onto needle; cinch closed (not too tightly, but enough to pucker and shrink the end – first photo below). Sew through elastic loop of pom pom (second photo below) a few times until secure (third photo). Tie off and weave in ends. Rep on other end of scarf.
Weave in all ends. Last photo shows finished piece.
