Halloween is around the corner, which means it’s time to crochet some fun, fast, and cute accessories! These DIY fox or cat ears are so adorable and easy to make, and they use very little yarn, making them a great stashbuster project! What better way to top off your fox or cat costume? These headbands are great for both kids’ and adults’ costumes!

Fox & Cat Ear Headbands

You’ve probably guessed this if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, but I am obsessed with Halloween! Between the natural beauty of the season and the spooky fun that the Halloween holiday brings, I find myself totally immersing myself in the season this year (which is probably evident in the patterns I’ve been publishing, like my Pumpkin Messy Bun Beanie and Pumpkin Spice Latte Amigurumi!). Even though Halloween will look a little different this year, there’s no reason we can’t still dress up in costumes that are so cute, it’s scary! That’s how I came up with the idea to make cute little animal headbands. (I’ve also made other Halloween headbands, like my Unicorn Headband and Witch Hat Headbands!)

When it comes to the perfect autumn/woodland/fox orange, it doesn’t get better than Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Terracotta (on Amazon HERE)! I use it for most all of my fox-related crochet projects; it’s a gorgeous deep orange that’s a dream to work with.

Row 14 – sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn (15 sc)
Edging
Sc around entire piece, making 9 sc up first side, 2 sc at tip of Ear, 9 sc down other side, and 15 across bottom (Row 14). (35 sc)
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Back of Fox Ear (make 2)
With Terracotta, rep all rows and Edging of Cat Ear.
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Outer Fox Ear (make 2)
With Black, rep Rows 1 – 3 of Cat Ear. In last st, change to Terracotta. With Terracotta, rep Rows 4 – 14 and Edging of Cat Ear. Switch to Black when making Edging around tip of Ear.
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Inner Ear (make 2 for Cat or Fox)
With Pink (Cat) or White (Fox), rep Rows 1 – 9 of Cat Ear.
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Ear Finishing
For Cat, sew one Inner Ear to one Cat Ear. Sew that piece to another Cat Ear to make one complete Ear with back. Rep to make another Ear.

For Fox, rep above process but sew Inner Ear to Outer Fox Ear, and sew that piece to Back of Fox Ear. Rep to make another complete Ear.

Headband
Starting at one end of plastic crafts headband, place a small section of desired yarn color on inside of headband.

Begin wrapping around this section, and continue wrapping around rest of headband. Wrap tightly, pushing yarn down occasionally to keep work tight.

When only about a half a centimeter of the headband remains on the other end, fasten off, leaving a long tail. Holding wrapped yarn in place, thread needle with tail and weave it through 1-2 centimeters of wrapped yarn at the edge of the headband.

Headband Finishing
Sew Ear pairs to Headband, spaced about an inch apart.

Weave in all ends.

Here are the finished headbands!
